Hold a Film Screening

During the international pandemic, many communities may choose to use Netflix Party, Zoom, or other online options for a virtual film screening. Others may feel safe enough to meet in person for a private, community or theatrical screening of a film. Regardless of venue, film screenings are an opportunity to build awareness, educate voters, and connect with others.

HOW TO DO IT

Select a film that ties into the 28th Amendment (Equal Rights)
- On the Basis of Sex is the “docudrama” story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s impact on the American justice system.
- A Simple Matter of Justice is a short but persuasive documentary about the 1977 National Women’s Conference. (source for documentary, Texas Archive)  
- Equal Means Equal is a documentary film made prior to the final three ratifications. It gives a good overview about gender equality and the ERA.

- Legalize Equality is a 30-minute version of the film that works well for house parties.
- RBG profiles the career of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her work on gender equality.

Carefully review the licensing requirements for your film and type of event. If you are hosting fewer than 20 people that is generally covered by private screening rights. Also, membership organizations and/or libraries can usually screen movies without cost for larger groups.

Co-host your event with other groups. This is a great way to build collaborative relationships and to increase turnout with the membership of other organizations.
