Connect With Friends

Help spread awareness of the 28th Amendment (Equal Rights). Some outreach efforts have found that focusing on spreading awareness in the general public is the way to gain action from politicians.

Besides spreading the word on social media and email, postcards are another relatively quick, visual way to communicate effectively with friends / relatives. Many people think the 28th Amendment (Equal Rights) is already in the Constitution, so it’s important to educate them with the facts.

HOW TO DO IT

  • Decide on your audience: think about which friends / relatives would likely be open to learning about and supporting the 28th Amendment. Begin with this list and expand from there. Remember that Equal Rights apply to everyone, so don’t limit your audience to women. It’s important to build support for Equal Rights across gender, race, age, party, etc.
  • Determine messaging: once you’ve determined card recipients, decide on an effective message. Make it short but persuasive. For example, you may choose to remind people that 97% of Americans support Equal Rights or that 168 countries include gender equality in their constitutions. Personal anecdotes are particularly effective, so share one if space allows.
  • Be disciplined in your messaging: the best way to build support for ratification is to keep communication positive, bipartisan, inclusive, and single-issue. Avoid conflating this with other issues you care about. Encourage friends and family to learn more by visiting our website.
